Has your child always wanted to take an improv class, but you haven't been able to commit the time or the money? Well, commit to The Bit, instead! Our Improv for Kids course will teach your child the basics of our approach to improvisation, and will also help them in school, relationships, and social situations. NO improv or acting experience is necessary for this class.
Learning improv is useful for your child for so many reasons. Here are a few of them:
- Active Listening. Improv will strengthen your child's active listening skills, which are crucial to all of their relationships, including at school and at home.
- Body Language. The way your child moves, sits, and stands can be just as communicative as the words they say. Improv will teach them how to convey their openness to listening physically as well as audibly.
- Communication. As the world reconnects more every day, it's important that we don't forget how to communicate our ideas and feelings to one another. The most crucial lesson your child will learn in improv is how to express themself clearly and concisely, even in front of strangers or in a crowd.
- Collaboration and Team Building. A crucial tenet of improv learning how to work together to create something as a common goal. Improv will teach your child not only how to lead, but also how to be supportive in a group environment.
Our owners taught for years at the middle school and high school levels. If you'd like to see a performance prior to committing, we have
a monthly kids show followed by a workshop. The class will be broken down into smaller groups based on the age of the children.
INSTRUCTOR MICHAEL BRADT. Michael has been trying to entertain folks since birth, but more formally as an improviser, comedian, actor, and instructor in the Chicago area since the late ‘90s. He once won a stand-up competition by having more friends than any of the other comedians, which was the greatest win of all. His nearest brush with fame is when he heckled David Spade on the floor of a Vegas casino until Spade escorted himself out. Michael earned a B.S. in biochemistry a LONG time ago. He taught high school biology, chemistry, and physics before going back to law school and earning his J.D. (also, a LONG time ago). Michael and his wife Kelsey opened The Bit with the intention of providing a welcoming, inclusive community where creative people can create.
